Banking on smart homes

We want to be comfortable at home. And if we feel comfortable while also using less energy, that’s even better! One way to achieve this is to live in smaller homes that use less energy. But if we have the choice, more Quebecers would rather live in smart homes and manage our energy use through an app.

We want to be comfortable at home. And if we feel comfortable while also using less energy, that’s even better! One way to achieve this is to live in smaller homes that use less energy. But if we have the choice, more Quebecers would rather live in smart homes and manage our energy use through an app.

This is now possible with the Hilo smart home service.

When you opt for Hilo, you can reduce your annual energy use by up to 15%. It’s also a great way to use less energy and help speed up the energy transition.

Saving energy when it counts

Hilo is an accessible smart home service that lets you optimize your energy use and find ways to save throughout your home using connected devices.

When you participate in a Hilo challenge during a peak in the demand for electricity, you’ll receive a cash reward for each kilowatthour not consumed. The goal? To create a virtual power plant that runs on the energy savings achieved by all participants in these challenges. This allows the energy that has been freed up to be used for other purposes, such as transportation electrification, which is an increasing trend in Québec.

Tools to help you use energy more wisely

Hilo provides a variety of connected devices—thermostats, smart plugs, switches and other products—as well as a smart solution for electric vehicle charging that optimize electricity use at home. And it couldn’t be simpler, thanks to an easy-to-use mobile app.

To save even more energy, other products will soon be added to the services offered by Hilo: a smart solution for water heaters and thermostats for radiant and central heating.
