Utshishkau: Together towards a more sustainable future
The development model lets community partners be part of the project from the very start. As equal shareholders and co-developers with Hydro-Québec, they will receive independent income they can invest according to their own priorities.

One project, two sectors
An initial wind power development project was identified by the partners Hydro-Québec, the Domaine-du-Roy MRC, the Pekuakamiulnuatsh First Nation and the Atikamekw Council of Wemotaci in the Chamouchouane area in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean: the Utshishkau wind farm project.
Language of the land
Utshishkau means “very mountainous” in the Ilnu (Nelueun) language. For the partners, the name aptly reflects the territory’s topography. It also expresses their desire to rise up in order to gain a long-term vision for development and their ambition to actively contribute to decarbonization by building a more sustainable future through wind power projects.
Area map
The development of the area’s wind potential will be subject to a consultation process.
